Golden Agri-Resources (GAR), a leading global agribusiness and palm oil producer, has announced a significant partnership with Verborg Group, a new entrant in the vegetable oil sector. This strategic collaboration will see GAR become the exclusive supplier of over one million tonnes of tropical oils to Verborg Group over several years.

The partnership, which aligns with GAR’s European expansion strategy, is set to enhance the supply of high-quality, responsibly sourced tropical oils in Europe. Under the multi-year agreement, GAR will supply Verborg Group with three key products: Crude Palm Oil (CPO), Crude Palm Kernel Oil (CPKO), and Coconut Oil. The supply will support Verborg Group’s new vegetable oil refinery, which is scheduled to start operations in late January 2024 in the Netherlands.

Verborg Group, a family-managed business with over thirty years of experience in the oil and fat industry, has recently launched a state-of-the-art refining facility. The new refinery marks a significant step in the company’s ambition to establish itself in the European vegetable oil market. This partnership with GAR is expected to enhance Verborg’s capability to provide high-quality refined oils to its European customers.

Maarten van der Hoeven, Head of Europe & Latin America at GAR, emphasised the importance of the partnership in reinforcing GAR’s commitment to Europe. “The Verborg partnership is a testament to our ongoing efforts to build a robust supply chain in Europe. Our exceptional distribution network, logistical support, and adaptability ensure that we can meet our customers’ needs effectively, whether it’s for quality, value-added services, or supply chain solutions. We are enthusiastic about working with Verborg to deliver top-quality refined oils to their customers across Europe,” he stated.

The collaboration underscores GAR’s strategy to build long-term relationships with key partners in Europe, reflecting its dedication to adapting to evolving regulatory and market demands. By providing a steady supply of tropical oils, GAR aims to support Verborg Group’s mission of delivering sustainable and high-quality vegetable oil products.

Goedhart Borgesius, Director at Verborg Group, expressed excitement about the partnership. “We are thrilled to begin our journey with Golden Agri-Resources. Partnering with GAR, which has a well-integrated supply chain and a strong commitment to sustainability in the palm oil sector, will enhance our ability to offer high-quality and sustainable vegetable oils to our European customers. We look forward to collaborating with GAR on innovative product solutions and contributing to a more sustainable future,” Borgesius said.

The partnership also highlights GAR’s focus on sustainability and responsible sourcing. As Europe continues to tighten regulations around environmental and social practices in the agricultural sector, GAR’s commitment to these principles will be crucial in meeting the demands of European customers. The company’s expertise in managing a reliable supply chain and its dedication to sustainability align with Verborg Group’s goals of providing high-quality, responsibly sourced products.

The collaboration between GAR and Verborg Group is poised to strengthen both companies’ positions in the European market. By leveraging GAR’s established supply chain and Verborg’s innovative refining capabilities, the partnership aims to deliver superior vegetable oil products while adhering to stringent sustainability standards.

As the new refinery prepares to commence operations, both companies are confident that this partnership will contribute significantly to their growth and success in the competitive European vegetable oil market. The agreement marks a milestone in GAR’s European business strategy and underscores its commitment to building sustainable, long-term relationships with key industry players.
