The highly anticipated gastropub, The Ox, is set to open on 14th October on Clapham High Street, promising to offer a fresh dining experience to the local community. Situated in the building formerly known as The Saxon, The Ox has undergone a comprehensive renovation, blending its original features with contemporary design elements to create a welcoming atmosphere for patrons.

From the team behind Clapham’s renowned Rose & Crown, The Ox aims to become a local favourite with its focus on high-quality food and drink. The venue boasts a spacious main bar, a snug area for intimate gatherings, a mezzanine restaurant, and a rooftop terrace that offers stunning views of the vibrant area. Additionally, a private events space known as The Playroom will cater to special occasions, further enhancing the pub’s appeal.

Central to The Ox’s ethos is its commitment to modern British cuisine, infused with Asian influences. Diners can expect a carefully curated menu highlighting seasonal British ingredients, much of which is sourced from the group’s family farms located in Melrose, on the Scottish borders. The beef served at The Ox is ethically and sustainably sourced, and dry-aged on-site, ensuring the highest quality.

As part of its soft launch, The Ox will offer 50% off food from 14th to 27th October for guests who book a reservation via the website, using the code SOFTLAUNCH50 in the booking notes. This promotion invites food lovers to be among the first to sample the restaurant’s offerings.

Signature dishes set to make waves include a fillet of Scottish Luing beef, accompanied by smoked eel, potato terrine, and salt-baked celeriac; a Beef Bourguignon pie served with an oyster fritter, triple-cooked chips, wilted greens, and a rich stock pot gravy; and a shareable Porterhouse steak. Other menu highlights include King scallops paired with crispy Thai chicken wings and pickled ginger, a Japanese smashed burger with bone marrow mayo and dipping jus, and Maple and soy baked swede served with onion dashi, katsu, and crispy vermicelli. For lighter bites, the pub offers delectable bar snacks such as a hand-raised game pie with date ketchup and popcorn shrimp with sesame and yuzu.

The drink selection at The Ox promises to be equally impressive, featuring a mix of classic and innovative options. Guests can indulge in a variety of craft beers, an extensive wine list, and cocktails like the Lynchburg Lemonade, a refreshing blend of bourbon, triple sec, lemon juice, and lemonade, or the Freehouse Cola, which combines vodka, Pimm’s cup, crème de pêche, liquorice liqueur, and lemon juice.

Open seven days a week, The Ox is set to cater to a diverse clientele, whether they’re looking for a quick pint and a Scotch egg, a working lunch, a leisurely meal with friends, or a venue for special celebrations. With Christmas menus and group bookings now available, The Ox is poised to become a beloved addition to the Clapham High Street dining scene.
