Key UK food chain organisations are pressing the government to ensure the EU’s proposed new Pesticide Authorisation Regulation is not implemented without a full EU wide impact assessment.
With officials in Brussels having reached an agreement on the final text of the Regulation to put before the European Parliament for a vote in January, pressure is mounting on Gordon Brown and Hilary Benn to reach an agreement with other Member States on how to assess the impact of new hazard based pesticide cut off measures, on the agricultural economy, food prices and food security.
